Nick Seely, Inspiring Photographer

Born April 25th, 1993 in Atlanta, GA, Nick Seely grew up as an only child. Since age thirteen, Nick has always loved art and photography. All throughout high school, he had award-winning artwork within his school’s art show. Shortly after graduating high school, Nick moved to Myrtle Beach South Carolina.
Currently, Seely studies at Horry Georgetown Technical College. He has plans of majoring in business with a minor in photography. Nick not only enjoys photography, but he also has an interest in a slight more vulgar type of art influenced by an artist by the name of Allex Pardee. Mr. Pardee’s artwork would remind you of something you would see in a tattoo parlor. Paintings of demon like looking animals with a mixture of abstract are just a few examples. On a more subtle side, Nick enjoys photos in National Geographic. He has hopes of someday taking photos for similar magazines. Locally, Nick sells some of his artwork in North Myrtle Beach.  He also works at Abercrombie and Fitch to help support himself through college. However, with hopes of being a “big-time” photographer, Nick plans to move somewhere like California where his idol, Allex Pardee, is from.
All in all I find Nick Seely to be the normal, motivated, young adult with hopes and dreams. I find his taste in the artwork of Allex Pardee interesting and odd due to the graphic nature of his paintings, and this makes me believe that Nick might have a bit of a dark side to him. I feel I can relate to Nick’s odd interest, due to the fact that I study dentistry. Most people would not want to stick their hands in others mouths. We both have interests in odd art forms.

Profiles: Brandon Lowrimore

Today I am reading you all a profile about Brandon Lowrimore. Brandon Lowrimore is 18 years old. Born on October 17, 1994 in Charleston, SC but raised in Georgetown. Brandon has one sibling, who is his younger brother, which makes him the oldest. He went to Georgetown High School where his favorite subjects were math and science. He currently attends Horry-Georgetown Technical College where he is majoring in Physical Therapy.

I started asking him for some key facts about himself. Brandon described his personality as being a short-tempered person, shy, and friendly once he gets to know you. His hobbies are surfing, duck-hunting, and listening to music. His favorite music is Rap and Country. His favorite artists are Mack Mill and Conway Twitty. I asked if he had a favorite food and ice cream. His reply was steak, fried chicken, junk food, chocolate, and birthday cake ice cream. His favorite colors are lime green and orange. His favorite teams are Clemson, Green Bay, and The Braves.

I think everyone has accomplishments throughout their life that doesn't necessarily have to deal with sports. Once accomplishment not pertaining to sports of Brandon's was having A B Honor Roll throughout high school. He also mentioned one more accomplishment, which was football. Brandon played for Georgetown High School where he was the running back and the corner back. I am assuming that Brandon Lowrimore must have been very good and talented when it came to playing football if he had the chance to play more than one position. He told me he played football since he was eight years old. The Georgetown High School mascot is the Bulldogs, and their colors are navy blue and grey.

Brandon wants to be a physical therapist one day after he receives the highest degree desired. I asked why a physical therapist? He told me that when he was playing football, he tore his ACL. While taking therapy, he became very interested in it. Brandon's goal is to get his Associates Degree then transfer for another degree. He told me that he was undecided about what he will do with his degree once he gets it. I also asked what he enjoyed about football. He said he liked the rush and the adrenaline he got while being on the field. My last question for Brandon Lowrimore is there any other sport he enjoyed other than football, his answer was baseball.

While writing this profile, it seems like Brandon lives his life day by day and doesn't plan it out. His life seems full of athletic ability and determination. Throughout this profile we all learned important facts about Brandon Lowrimore's life that includes college, a future degree, and sports. Hopefully he will accomplish all his goals and become a physical therapist to help athletes with their injuries the way he got help for his.

Wesley Sheaffer, your new dentist

The sound of a buzzing drill, or the smell of the dentist office may not make people feel too comfortable, but for Wesley Sheaffer it's his soon to be new home. Wesley Sheaffer is this unique twenty-two year old college student who walks through the halls of Horry Georgetown.
Wesley was born and raised in Pennsylvania and at the young age of fifteen he was already interested in the field of dental hygiene. Dental hygiene was something he always felt like he was supposed to do with his life. With this new found passion he found himself working three years later for Bettina McBeth, a well known cosmetic dentist at the Cosmetic and Family Dentist in Gardners, Pennsylvania. Wesley was the youngest and the only male to ever work for Bettina. Wesley did not only have to work hard in earning this new position, but Wesley had to be CPR certified, First Aid Certified, and Wesley had to earn his radiology license. After working with Bettina McBeth, Wesley realized he found his new hero and inspiration. Wesley wants to one day become a great dentist, one as good as Bettina Mcbeth, as well as helping everyone he can have their perfect white smile.
Wesley decided he wanted to further his schooling career, so he began searching for a school that offered dental hygiene, an area that had an ocean, and a place that offered cheap rent. Myrtle Beach just seemed like the perfect place to go. It wasn't long before Wesley found himself in the sands of Myrtle Beach. Wesley found a job working in a restaurant called Friendly's. Wesley has now been working at Friendly's for two years, and is about to finish off his second year of college at Horry Georgetown.
Where can you find Wesley when he's not studying dental hygiene at Horry Georgetown you might ask? Well you can find Wesley participating in the night scene at the local Myrtle Beach dance clubs having fun. You could even find Wesley at the local bar watching the Miami Dolphins play football. If Wesley sounds like someone you might want to be friends with, you might want to hurry before your chance runs up. Wesley is planning on moving back to Pennsylvania shortly after this December, and will no longer be around. So if you need some dental advice, or just a great friend, Wesley is a great candidate for either job.
Out of all of the things that make up Wesley, the thing that I find to be the most special, and respectable, is his love and loyalty that he has for his family. Wesley is extremely family orientated, and no matter what situation he is in, or what is going on in his life, Wesley will drop anything to be there for his family. He will bend over backwards for the people that matter to him, and if you ask me that is an amazing quality for someone to have. I myself am someone who cares deeply about my family, and hearing that Wesley is the same way made me have that much more respect for him. There aren't many people that you meet in life that make you feel comfortable, or give off the impression that they are someone that you can trust, and have an open and normal conversation with; but when I talked to Wesley for the first time, that is how I felt. It has been a treat being able to learn more about him, and I encourage anyone who hasn't talked to him, to approach him and get to know him. Wesley Sheaffer is one guy I can honestly say is someone you will not regret talking to, I know I didn't.

Profiles: Lauren Register

Looks are very deceiving... All the pain, suffering, and sleepless nights just thinking about how she could be the very best at what she does. Lauren always dreamed about becoming a black belt to prove to the people around her that she could protect herself and that she was able to put up a fight in any situation that she was faced with. It took four years for her to accomplish her dream to become a black belt.
Starting off with a white belt she knew that it would be a long journey to become a black but she didn't care she knew what she wanted so she never gave up on her dream. The week of her first time to get up in rank which was her first test she was very nervous but she knew what she had to do to go in there and show her trainer what she was made so that she could rank up and some of the requirement that she had to meet for her first time was she had to show that she knew the basics of karate before she was able to become a white belt with a stripe which she did. Knowing that it did not take long for her to be a yellow belt.
As the years past she found what she loved to do in becoming a purple belt she knew that it would only be a few more years before she became a black belt as the training continued and she kept finding herself more and more in love with the sport of karate she did not want to give up meeting new friends and sharing the same interests as she showed. With all the support of her friends and family she became to take the sport more seriously than she ever thought possible more months of training ranking up to become a brown belt becoming more and more closer to the goal that she had set for herself so that she could prove that she more than just a girl she wanted to show that she could actually prove to herself and everyone else that she could protect herself no matter how people saw her.
Two years and three months have passed and she anticipated the day that she would become a black belt and final it was the day before her test to show not only her but the people around her who she actually was. The day before she had her test she had one more class to show herself that she was ready for the test… Everything went her way that day. After class on the long ride home she thought to herself this is the day I have been training for and its coming tomorrow morning. She went home and the restless night she had which she couldn't get it off of her mind.

The morning finally came and she was anxious to see if she would actually become a black belt her name was called she stepped on the mat and went through everything she has been training for she did everything perfect so there was no doubt in her mind that she did not make it. Sure enough she got her black belt as she started to tear up she said “looks can be very deceiving”.

Rivalry Showdown

                                                                                                                                                Swakeen 1
                                                                                                                                By: Nicole Fillmore

“Beeeeeeeep!” The referee sounded off the start to the biggest rivalry game of the season. As the roaring sound of 1200 fans overwhelmed the stands at Loris High School, Swakeem Cox took his place as right outside linebacker, on his rival’s turf. As he crouched down into position he looked like a true North Myrtle Beach Chief ready to defend his team from the Loris Lions. In those beginning moment’s Swakeem seemed to keep a calm, cool, and collective demeanor. “Before the start of the game I was just focused. Honestly I didn’t even hear the crowd around me I was just determined to win. Especially since so many people doubted us and thought we were going to get whooped,” he says.

After coming back from an injury that had kept him out of playing, Swakeem also felt like he had something to prove. “After getting a high sprain from a tackle at one of our practices I had a lot to prove. This was my first game back and I was starting. There was no way I was going to let all those ice baths and rehabilitation go to waste.” As the game was set in motion, the Chiefs were putting up a good fight. They were taking the Lions out using the best defense plays they had to hold them off. Going into half time the score was still 0-0, but when the buzzer set off the start to the third quarter, things had taken a turn for the worst.

Fumble! All you could see were flashes of jerseys piling on top of each other in one giant doggy pile, fighting for the football like it was a million dollar check. As the referees ran over to unravel the heap of men, the Lions ended up with the ultimate price, making the next play theirs. Shakeem recalls that very angering moment: “It was very frustrating seeing them come out with that fumble. We were losing stamina and the last thing I wanted was them to have the upper hand going into the third quarter, but the game wasn’t over and we were still going to fight for the win.” As the lions took their place on the field another surprise came. The Chiefs saw the Lions had switched their formation to the Chiefs formation. “We didn’t know what to do, we never practiced that type of double play to defend our own play,” Shakeem admitted. Even as the Chiefs did their best to defend the play their attempt failed and the Lions took off for a 40 yard touchdown.

As faith started to alter in Shakeem and his teammates he recalls the moment that kept them motivated to keep playing. “Even though we were losing, not once did our fans stop cheering or our band stop playing. It definitely helped motivate us by knowing there were people there who supported us.” After that forty yard dash the fourth quarter was here, the score 14-0. Do or die, the Chiefs were managing to hold off the Lions even though they were exhausted by all means. Bam! Just like that Swakeem recalls his team’s linebacker going down.  In those final moments the linebackers’ muscles had frozen up and just like that the Lions were heading down for the touchdown. Swakeem recalls his teammates running their hearts out to try and catch the rival with the football.

The final score leaving the field that night was 21-0, but that didn’t seem to get Swakeem down. “Honestly that was my favorite game, because even though we lost we never gave up. Not to mention I had been with that team for three years and that is the hardest I have seen us work as a team.” As Swakeem went on to tell more about the games he played with his team you could tell it was definitely a passion of his. “Football is definitely a part of me. It helped me stay out of trouble; it inspired me to do better in school; all in all it helped me get through high school.”

Profile: Adventures of Alison Gore

I believe that life is full of adventures and who does not like adventures? Some adventures can be ones of fun and games, but others can be dangerous. Well in Alison Gore's case, she recalls her past adventures as fun and games.

Alison was no more than a regular high school student just like some of us in here today. She attended North Myrtle Beach high school playing softball in her four years there.  In her free time she enjoyed going horseback riding on a nearby horse ranch, but the things she is most fond of is her family vacations, which often times were an adventure. On one adventure she went to Boone, North Carolina for white water rafting and canoeing. The water was cold and moving with rapids measuring on four to five scales. That's not small rapids. While getting all wrapped up in the experience of whiter water rafting, she soon realized that she was in the middle of no where in the mountains. Moving furiously down the river in ice cold water, not only did she white water raft down it, but she also canoed making the river feel a lot stronger and faster. Later in the week, she realized that she got a thrill of adrenalin from this experience. That being the case she her mom, dad, and sister went hiking to a waterfall high in the mountains. Once reaching the waterfall, Alison climbed to an open jumping, and yes, she jumped into that same ice cold water that she had been rafting down days before.

Her family soon realized the joy they get out of adventures, so they planned another trip. This time it was to Charlotte, North Carolina. Here they took part in rock climbing and sip lining. While she was rock climbing, Alison got to see inside taverns and old coal mines. Once they reached the taverns and coal mines, they hiked down them. Exploring the beautiful features of the earth and the old history of the coal mines. These are just some examples of things that she and her family take part in every year during Thanksgiving.

I think this just tells you that Alison is very adventurous and likes the rush of doing some what crazy, but at the same time not dangerous things. She is excited to see what kind of adventure her family has planned for this upcoming Thanksgiving. between all these events that she and her family have accomplished , I can only imagine what comes in her future years with her family.

Hard work, heavy breathing, grass stains, and cheers are all things we think of when on the subject of sports. However, sports come with sweat, struggles, and injuries. Football, basketball, baseball, soccer, etc. Are all collision is the violent striking of an object or person against another.
It all occurred during a soccer game on February, on Myrtle Beach's state of the art turf, Carolina Forrest's Nicole collided with a Myrtle Beach Seahawk player. The game was neck to neck, each team having one goal. Going into the 2nd period Nicole waited anxiously as she watched Seahawk green and Panther burgundy battle for the ball. Seconds later, a Myrtle Beach forward came down field and Nicole fell into stance at goalie. Bracing her blue eyes on what she was going to be a big play, Nicole was interrupted by a "Snap, Crack, and Pop." Nicole made her way onto the sideline under on power in excruciating pain. While bracing her knee on the sideline, thoughts raced through her head, "That's it... I'm done...It's Over!" The burgundy Panthers went on without her, victorious over the Seahawks.
Two weeks after the game Nicole visited the knee therapist. SHE HAD TORN HER ACL! Nicole went through her senior year never playing in a game of soccer again. The specialist told Nicole that she had torn her ACL completely, and needed to have immediate surgery. In addition to several weeks of therapy, Nicole would need a cartilage replacement surgery. Challenges of learning how to get dressed, walk properly, and use the bathroom lingered in the future.
Months went on and Nicole regained all of her strength and learned everything properly. Due to the challenge and goals she was forced to face, Nicole believes the surgery and physical therapy made her a stronger person.
